We went to Schenk Forest and Lake Crabtree CP today. Upon arriving at Schenk, we found a very nice Loggerhead Shrike. It was my second, and my dad's first. After going through 100s of Eastern Bluebirds and Chipping Sparrows, we found a single Yellow-rumped Warbler and a fairly late Palm Warbler. The only other things we saw were singing Eastern Meadowlarks and a single adult Red-headed Woodpecker. We then headed to Lake Crabtree. It was very active with American Goldfinches, Swamp, Song, and White-throated sparrows. We also found one of the biggest holes in our lifelist, Field Sparrow, lifer #172. So, overall it was a productive day, ending with one lifer for me, and two for my dad. The date on the Field Sparrow is incorrect.

I stumbled across your blog while browsing Whatbird's forum, and I wanted to say congrats on the lifers, and keep up the good work! I think I am at a similar place in my birding life right now (picked up lifer #175 last week), but I am located in Indiana. I am pretty familiar with NC and its birds, though. I make it down to Wake County at least once a year to visit my parents, so I am sure we've birded in many of the same spots. I just thought I'd say hello to a fellow birder-blogger, and share my site if you'd like to check it out: http://gregandbirds.wordpress.com/
